HALE 8< ASSOCIATES

ENGINEERS

January 30, 1967

Mr. Jim T. Brown, Executive Director
URBAN RENEWAL AGENCY
OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS
138 West San Antonio Street
P. O. Box 1266
San Marcos, Texas 78666

Dear Mr. Brown:

I am submitting an estimate of certain costs that could be
involved with the, widening of Guadalupe and Live Oak from the in-
tersection of Matthews to the intersection with Pecan. The widen-
ing involved in this 40-foot width right-of-way would be from
its present 26 feet to 36 feet, curb face to curb face. This
estimate is in response to your request by letter dated Janu-
ary 25, 1967.

You will recall that, at our suggestion, you requested last
fall officials of both the City and the College to review the
entire area of upper Guadalupe and Matthews Street as to whether
they considered any change in plans ,necessary for the area in
view of the change in campus plans including the high-rise dorm
and in view of the City's plans regarding Olmos Drive and Com-
manche Street. We were advised that no changes were requested.
We attended the pre-construction conference in your office where
you requested all interested parties to bring any matter of con-
cern to your attention prior to initiating this last phase of
construction. I recall the College being well represented, in-
cluding their architect. Also the Gas Company was well repre-
sented. We then proceeded to execute the work at as fast a pace
that we could in accordance with the latest desires of all inter-
ested parties.

The street in question is now installed with curbs and gut-
ters on both sides and the flexible base is in the latter phase
of being completed. The work remaining consists essentially of
completing the finish on base material, laying the hot-mix
,asphalt surface, and back-filling behind the curbs. We have had
no official request to stop the work and it is anticipated that
the street will be finished in the near future. As you know, a
stop-order at this stage could result in extras for the Contractor,
and I suggest that serious thought be given to any stop-order re-
quest. Since the curb and gutter is already.' in, place, as approved
by all concerned previously, the cost to remove and replace after
this Contractor finishes would not be much more than that to re-
move it now.

( /!
