I

I

I

:J

Let it be known by all present that we, the undersigned members
of the Board of Directors of the San Marcos Area Chamber of
Commerce, do hereby adopt this Resolution as recorded.

Resolved, that due to the insistance of Governor John Connally
in his request that HemisFair 1968 be foremost in the minds
of the Legislature at this time, we feel that it is necessary
for this organization to request the City Council to request
the Texas Highway Department to re-consider past action in
reference to two-way traffic pattern on the frontage roads
adjacent to Interstate 35 as it goes through the City limits
of San Marcos for the following reasons:

WHEREAS, we have tourist facilities now in operation on these
roads which have pledged support of the HemisFair Housing
Program in effort to assist with the expected crowd of 11
million plus visitors, and

WHEREAS, the one-way traffic pattern will be confusing to many
of these visitors who are unfamiliar with such patterns in a
city of our size, and

WHEREAS, our neighboring City of New Braunfels has two-way
traffic along the frontage roads this appears to be discrim-
ination to our businesses, and

WHEREAS, we have evidence of many problems of emergency traffic
to and from our hospital due to one-way pattern, and

WHEREAS, you are now planning our lateral streets for future
development in effort to eliminate part of this problem,
therefore

BE IT KNOWN, that we urge the City Council to request two-way
traffic for a period of two years, giving us time to complete
our planning and thereby taking care of the Tourist traffic
in our area during HemisFair 1968.

Respectfully submitted:
/7 ..
J(:hi"~~
" ~- V', 4:-f.-. rlJ
'-\?'
