<br />regu I ar meet i ng, february 27., 1967 <br /> <br />page two <br /> <br />to the Parks & Recreation Beautification Fund. <br />A I derman F roh moved that the Counc i I author i ze <br />remission of the customary fees for use of the <br />Recreat i on Ha I I, pr:JOV i ded the Bus i ness and Pro- <br />fessional Women donate a like amount to the <br />Parks & Recreation Beautification Fund. Alder- <br />man Pool seconded the motion and on roll cal I, <br />the follow~ng vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Damon, Froh, Pool, Whittenberg <br />None <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />The Mayor introduced Charles Hanson, reporter for <br />the San Antonio Light, and welcomed him to the <br />meeting, <br /> <br />Mr. Serur read aloud a letter from the Rev, C.E, <br />Jennings, Chairman of the Charter Commission, see <br />attached. The Mayor ~xpressed his appreciation to <br />the Charter Commission, who had written a Charter <br />approved by a large majority on February 24, <br /> <br />i <br /> <br />Dr, Vernon Cook appeared before the Counci I as <br />spokesman for a group of property-owners petition- <br />ing the Council to reconsider the proposed site of <br />the new Central Fire Station. His prepared state- <br />ment, and the petition, are attached as a part of <br />the Minutes. Dr. Cook also read a copy of a letter <br />sent the Council by Super~ntendent of Schools Shan- <br />non Doss, on the same matter. Alderman Damon moved <br />that the Counc i I postpone act i on on purchase of a <br />fire station site for six months. Alderman Whitten- <br />berg seconded the motion, In the discussion which <br />fnl lowed, Volunteer Fire Chief C,L, Haynes stated <br />that the State Fire Insurance Commission has asked <br />them to go to Austin to discuss sites. When quest- <br />ioned as ~o who went, the City Manager said Mr. flay- <br />ne$; Jack Major, Fire Marshal I; HughA. Snel lings, <br />President of the Volunteer Firemen; Bi I I Davis and <br />he had gone to Austin to discuss avai table sites. <br />Alderman Froh asked if it were true that 90% of the <br />fires the past ten years had occurred in the south <br />part of town. Mr, Haynes answered in the affirmative, <br />After further discussion, with members of the petit- <br />ioning group participating, the question was called <br />for, The fol lowing vote WaS recorded: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />'( <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Damon, Froh, Pool, Whittenberg <br />None <br /> <br />The Mayor dec I ared the mot i on ca,rri ed. <br /> <br />The Mayor introduced a Resolution setting forth proced- <br />ure for cal ling the City Officers Election, Apr. I 4. <br />Alderman Froh moved adoption of the Resolution, attach- <br />ed as a part of the Minutes.
