Too, Hopkins Street
is a deSignated highway and because it is one of the three main
streets running from the downtown area to the weatern part of
town, it carries a large load of traffic that would certainly
seem to us to be a hinderance to our fire department in reaChing
the scene of a fire in the southern part of town, should it nappen
during the so called "rush hours" of the day when people are go-
ing nome or going to their places of employment.
Another pOint that seems qu1te pertinent to us 1s the fact
that this area is one of the older residential areas in San Mar-
cos where many of the homes are owned and ocoupiedby those of
retirement age. These people take pride in their homes and oon-
tinually doing those things that make San Marcos a better plaoe
in which to live. This involves a relatively few, but several
of these arK retired people who live Within a radius of 100 yards
of this site are known to have heart oonditions and other ailments
that the disturbance of t1re trucks and sirens sound1ng oft at all
hours of the night could oerta1nl;r prove to be detrimental to their
health.

I

I
