~

I

I

I

,:

()

o

Mr. Walker

-2-

February 10, 1967

As matters now exist, San Marcos enjoys the lowest retail
rate for electric power in Texas when judged with other citie s of
comparable size and this law rate made possible by LCRA has been a
major factor in'the growth and progress of the City of San Marcos.
The City has the best electric service in the State of Texas and such
service is backed by investments of LCRA representing millions and
millions af dollars whereby interconnections are being maintained
with adjoining utilities so that practically the entire generating capa-
bilities in the State of Texas are available in emergencies to see that
there is no lack of electric power. Also by virtue of the operations
of LCRA San Marcos has the ability to affer to any praspective
industrial customer electric service when it is needed, in the amount
that is needed, at a fair price and, at a rate that can be expected to
remain reasonable :vithin the future. As we stated at the conference,
this is made possible by reason of the sound business practices and
operations of the LCRA throughout the past thirty years and is the
result of the wise investment of millions and millions of dollars in
" generating facilities, transmission facilities, distribution facilities
and the wise development and utilization of the natural resources of
the Central Texas area.

<,

The people in San Marcos have been able to retain in their
area for their own benefit thousands' of dollars each month by reason
of the low rates of LCRA. The proposed agreement is merely a con-
tinuation of the policy of the LCRA to expand and extend benefits
wl'lenever possible.

As I stated to you, the LCRA is not seeking to gain anything
by virtue af the proposed agreement, but is merely making an offer to
discount certain charges and whether the offer should be accepted is a
matter within the sole discretion of the City.

:C'

~~~
,/
Sim Gideon
,General Manager
SG:nm
"
