Cole, Ed Munson, Denis Sanders of <br />Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam , Gene Rourke, <br />Fiscal Agent, Sandra Graham, Bob Olson, <br />June Davis <br /> <br />The Mayor opened the meeting at 730 p.m. <br /> <br />Engineers of Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam presented a progress <br />report on the City's development program. Ed Mun'son, design <br />engineer for the City's proposed sewage disposal plant, explained <br />the choice of a site down-river for the plant. He stated the <br />difference in cost of pumping waste to that location, as opposed <br />to' pump i ng to the present d i s'posa I p I ant, wou I d save $20,000 in <br />ten years. He said 30% of the plant cost would be met with <br />Federal ~ssistance through the "660" program, application for <br />which had already been made. J.R. Cole showed charts on the cost. <br />He recommended that $300,000 in bmnds. voted for this purpose <br />shou I d be offered for sa Ie, now, si nce funds for construct i on <br />would be needed by September. Acquisition of the site in time <br />to qualify for"the "660" grant before the end of the fiscal <br />yea~, June 30. should get top p~iority, Mr. Cole stated. <br /> <br />Counci Iman Korff, Chairman of the Land Committee, reported on <br />a meeting with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sharp regarding the City's <br />purchase of ten acres for the disposal plant. An offer of $800 <br />an acre was made., Mr. Sharp's price was $2,000 an acre. It <br />was agreed Mr. Sharp would give the City Manager ~n answer on <br />the City's proposal by friday, May 19, and the matter would be <br />further discussed at the regular ,!,eeting of the Counci I, May 22. <br /> <br />Gene Rourke. F i sca I Agent, sa i d he fel t the sewage d i sposa I <br />plant was the first step in the five,year program. He stated <br />that sa Ie of $300.(J00 of the bonds wou I d present no prob I em at <br />this time. Mr. Rourke said it was the respo~sibi lity of the <br />Counci I to choose projects for top priority. and instruct him <br />accordingly, in the sale of bonds. <br /> <br />The City Manager reported he had talked with the State Fire <br />Commissioner on the probabi lity of using the City's property <br />on Hutchison Street, adjacent to the City Hal I and Fire Station. <br />for construction of the new fire station. He said the Commission- <br />er gave tentative approval of the site. Mr. Wolff said he had <br />asked the architect to come to San Marcos to discuss the site. <br />
