Worrell <br /> <br />The Mayor called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />The Minutes of the May 8, 1967 meeting were approv~d as presented, <br />on motion of Mr. Damon and second of Mr. Flores. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor, with consent of the Council, made a change in the Agenda, <br />in order to accomodate a large delegation present. He asked <br />Mr. Korff for a report from the Land Committee. Mr. Korff said a <br />letter had been received from Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sharp's attorney, <br />Mr. Alvis Yandygriff, in reference to the Clty's offe~ to purchase <br />the Sharp property for a sewage disposal plant. A copy of the <br />letter is attached. Mr. SerGr asked if ~e~bers of ' the delegation <br />would care to speak. He asked them to be brief, since the delegation <br />had not asked to be placed on the Agenda, ahd the Council had a <br />great number of items scheduled for discussion and action. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />June Davis, spokesman for the <br />petitIon with 248 signatures. <br />as follows; <br />"To Whom it May Concern: We, the following citizens and taxpayers <br />in the City of San Marcos and County of Hays p~otest the building <br />of the sewage disposal plant on the Frank Sharp property just south <br />of city limits. This is a level tract and borders the beautiful <br />San Marcbs River and will make an ideal housing devel~pment project. <br />We beg the City to reconsider and not take this property, as it will <br />forever ruin its val~e as development property. It would also ruin <br />the value of all other prope~ty in this area." <br />Mr. Davis opened his remarks by saying he owned property in the ~rea, <br />and that he had purely selfish motives for protesting the ~se of the <br />Sharp property for a disposal plant. He requested ihe City Manager <br />to give the background on selection of the site. <br />Mr,'Wolff explained thC\t engineers with Lockwood, Andrews f1 Newnam <br />had picked the site for the proposed new plant; that A.N. Moon had <br />been employed to negotiate for the property; that he had made the \ <br />first contact wlth Mr. Sharp, himself, with no siJccess; that the ,,' <br />Land Committee had then attempted to negotiate the purchase, and had <br />made an offer to Mr. and Mrs. Sharp. Mr. Davis thin questioned the <br />City Manager on a number of points. The Mayor called on B.W. Klotz <br />of Lockwood, Andrews f1 Newham to give a resume of ,the matter, and <br />to answer technical questions. <br />A number of other memqers of the delegation spoke in opposition to <br />placing the plant on the selecited site. <br />Councilman Whittenberg said he had been doing a lot of soul-searching <br />'since the location of the plant had been under discussion, and he <br /> <br />delegation, handed the Mayor a <br />The Mayor read aloud the petition, <br />
