He said people were going to have to be given <br />information on specific benefits they would receive from <br />the additional revenue before they would vote for it. <br />Jerri Veidt stated she 'approved of the Sales Tax, and <br />gave the results of a ~urvey KCNY had made among a cross- <br />section of local people. After further discussion, Dr. <br />Craddock moved that the Counci I institute a study of the <br />Sales Tax and reconsider the matter at the August 28 meet- <br />ing. Counci Iman Flores seconded the motion and on rol I cal I, <br />the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: Craddock, Oamon, Flores, Korff, Pool, Serur, <br />Whittenberg <br /> <br />NAY: None <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />The Mayor reminded the Council that two appointments to the <br />Housing Authority Board must be made; that the terms of Joe <br />RO,(jriguez and~Paine were,due to expire in August. Mr. <br />Se~ur'~aid the name of Rube~ Rujz had also been suggested <br />to Him'~s an'appointee. By secret bal lot, Mr. Rodriguez <br />was elected for reappointment, and Mr. Ruiz selected as a <br />new member. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Counci I, by common consent, approved the Mayor's appoint. <br />ment of James E. Smith as the tenth member of the Planning & <br />Zoning Commission. <br /> <br />The Mayor reported that Julian Rackley, Caretaker at City Park, <br />had recommended an increase in charges for trailers from $1.25 <br />a night to $1.50 a night. The Counci I ~pproved the increase. <br /> <br />The Mayor read aloud a letter from the Mayor of San Marcos, <br />Calif. and the Oirector of the Chamber of Commerce of that city. <br />San Marcos, Texas was invited to enter into a "sister city" <br />relationship with San Marcos, Calif. The suggestion was received <br />favorab I y, and the Counc i I author i zed the, Mayor to accept the <br />proposa I . <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Counci Iman Flores spoke on~he urgent need for selecting a <br />site for the proposed pubJ ic housing units. He said he felt <br />the Counci I should recommend action. Alabama Street was ment- <br />ioned again as a probable site. Mr. Flores moved that the <br />Counci I recommend to the Housing Authority Board that it take <br />action immediately to acquire land for the housing units. Mr. <br />Damon seconded the motion. Mr. Whittenberg said he did not <br />feel the Counc; I should act in a manner that would impy censure <br />of the Housing Authority Board.
