Dr. Craddock seconded the motion <br />and on rol I call, the fol lowing vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Craddock, Damon, Flores, Pool, Serur <br />None <br /> <br />The Mayor. dec I ared the mot ion carr i ed. <br /> <br />Dr. Pool moved that Part 2 of the Ranson proposal be accept- <br />ed, and the Mayor authorized to sign the agreement for the <br />City. Mrc Flores seconded the motion and on roll cal I, the <br />following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Craddock, Damon, Flores, Pool, Serur <br />None <br /> <br />The Mayor decla~ed the motion ca~ried. <br /> <br />Col. lem Belote came before the Council as a member of the <br />Optomist Club to request permission of the Counci I to attach <br />flags on the parking meters in downtown San Marcos. He said <br />his club is contemplating a "flag service", in which business <br />firms would pay $12 a year to.have flags placed in front of <br />the i r doors on nine ho I i days each year. Flags wou I d be attach- <br />edto parking meters by means of a br~cket. The matter was <br />discussed from several angl es. 1 t was brought out that some <br />businesses place flags in front of their offices by standing <br />them upright in holes bored for that purpose in the sidewalk. <br />Mr. Flores expressed pref~rence for this method, even at great- <br />er cost, in order to achieve a more uniform appearance in down- <br />town San Marcos. Mr. Damon moved that the City grant the re- I <br />quest of the Optom<Dst Club to attach flags to the park i ng meters. <br />on designated holidays. Or. Craddock seconded the motion and <br />on roll call, the following vote 0as recorded; <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Craddock, Damon, Flores, Pool, Serur <br />None <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />Mr. Bean discussed with the Counci I the possibi lityof ac- <br />quiring a 1941 aerial ladder truck which wi Ilbe sold by the <br />City of Austin by sealed bids. He eXplained that by addit_ <br />ion of this equipment to the San Marcos Fire Department, a <br />reduction in the City's key rate would saVe the City about <br />$2500 a year. Mr. Bean explained that it would cost be- <br />tween $8,000 and $10,000 to put the equipment in first class <br />runn i ng order. Th i s cost wou Id be offset in about four years <br />by the reduction in insurance. The City Manager recommended <br />that the Counci I authorize him to entepa bid up to $2,000. <br />Mr. Damon moved that the City Manager be authorized to bid up <br />to $2,000 on the equipment. Mr. Flores seconded the motion <br />and on ro I I ca II, the fo I low i ng vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE; <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Craddock, Damon, Flores, Pool, Serur <br />None . <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carriEid. <br /> <br />Mr. Bean discussed with the Counci I the need for a survey of <br />the City's paved streets to determine which streets must be <br />brought up to standard. He suggested that Lockwood, Andrews <br />& Newnam, the City's engineers, be directed to make a prel im- <br />inary survey. Dr. Craddock moved that the City Manager be <br />authorized to direct Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam to make such <br />a survey. Dr. Pool seconded the motion.
