regu I ar meet i ng, february 26, 1968 page three / The Mayor read aloud a letter of resignation from Dr. Sidney Edwards as a member of the Urban Renewal Board. Mr. Serur said Dr. Charles R. Wi I Ims had been suggested as a repfacement for Dr. Edwards. Dr. Craddock moved appointment of Dr. ~il Ims to the Urban Renewal Board. Mr. Whittenberg seconded the motion and on rol I call, the fol lowing vote was recorded: I AYE: Craddock, Damon, Korff, Pool, Serur, Whittenberg NAY: None Abstaining: Flores. Mr. Flores explained that he abstained because he did not know Dr. Wi Ilms. The Mayor declared the motion carried. Mr. Korff, member of the .Land Committee, reported that he and the City Manager had made an appointment with Virgi I Cowan to look at the 5-acre tract Mr. Cowan wishes to buy from the City. Mr. Damon said he understood that the property was assessed at $80 an acre, fair market value. Mr. Korff said that inasmuch as there is no road to the tract, that seemed a good price. Mr, Whittenberg moved that the City ask $100 an acre for the 5-acre tract. Dr. Pool seconded the motion, which passed unanimously; I The City Manager reported on the engineers' survey of the drainage problem in Sunset Acres. He said he had the con- sent of the Highway Department to tie into their storm sew- ers, which would go a long way toward solving the problem. Mr. Bean said he did not have a cost estimate; that City crews could do part of the work. Counci Iman Damon moved that a start be made on the part that City crews could handle, with a cost estimate on ~he total job to be furn- ished at a later date. Dr. Craddock seconded the motion and on rol I cal I, the following vote was recorded: AYE: Craddock, Damon, Flores, Korff, Pool, Serur, Whittenberg NAY: None The Mayor declared the motion carried. The Council approved by common consent a request from E.F. Morrow that he be allowed to re-plat his lots on Loop Street. I Gene Rourke of Ranson & Company, Inc., fiscal agents for the City, came before the Counci I to discuss the possibi lity of buying the local gas distributing system. He explained that a cfiasibi lity study could be made by his firm, with no cost to the City, unless bonds were sold for the purpose. Mr. Korff moved that Ranson & Company be authorized to invest1gate the feasibi lity of the purchase of the local gas system by the City. Dr. Craddock seconded the motion, with an addition to the motion that United Gas Company be written concerning the City's interest in purchase of the gas system, with a copy to the Rai Iroad Commission. On roll cal I, the fol lowing vote was recorded: AYE: Craddock, Damon, Flores, Korff, Pool, Serur, Whittenberg NAY: None The Mayor declared the motion carried.
