Mr. Serur said Dr. Charles R. Wi I Ims had <br />been suggested as a repfacement for Dr. Edwards. <br />Dr. Craddock moved appointment of Dr. ~il Ims to the <br />Urban Renewal Board. Mr. Whittenberg seconded the <br />motion and on rol I call, the fol lowing vote was <br />recorded: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />AYE: Craddock, Damon, Korff, Pool, Serur, Whittenberg <br />NAY: None <br />Abstaining: Flores. <br /> <br />Mr. Flores explained that he abstained because he did not <br />know Dr. Wi Ilms. <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />Mr. Korff, member of the .Land Committee, reported that he <br />and the City Manager had made an appointment with Virgi I <br />Cowan to look at the 5-acre tract Mr. Cowan wishes to <br />buy from the City. Mr. Damon said he understood that the <br />property was assessed at $80 an acre, fair market value. <br />Mr. Korff said that inasmuch as there is no road to the <br />tract, that seemed a good price. Mr, Whittenberg moved <br />that the City ask $100 an acre for the 5-acre tract. Dr. <br />Pool seconded the motion, which passed unanimously; <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The City Manager reported on the engineers' survey of the <br />drainage problem in Sunset Acres. He said he had the con- <br />sent of the Highway Department to tie into their storm sew- <br />ers, which would go a long way toward solving the problem. <br />Mr. Bean said he did not have a cost estimate; that City <br />crews could do part of the work. Counci Iman Damon moved <br />that a start be made on the part that City crews could <br />handle, with a cost estimate on ~he total job to be furn- <br />ished at a later date. Dr. Craddock seconded the motion <br />and on rol I cal I, the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: Craddock, Damon, Flores, Korff, Pool, Serur, Whittenberg <br />NAY: None <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />The Council approved by common consent a request from E.F. <br />Morrow that he be allowed to re-plat his lots on Loop Street. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Gene Rourke of Ranson & Company, Inc., fiscal agents for the <br />City, came before the Counci I to discuss the possibi lity of <br />buying the local gas distributing system. He explained that a <br />cfiasibi lity study could be made by his firm, with no cost to <br />the City, unless bonds were sold for the purpose. Mr. Korff moved <br />that Ranson & Company be authorized to invest1gate the feasibi lity <br />of the purchase of the local gas system by the City. Dr. Craddock <br />seconded the motion, with an addition to the motion that United <br />Gas Company be written concerning the City's interest in purchase <br />of the gas system, with a copy to the Rai Iroad Commission.
