Mr. Zavesky moved <br />that Dr. Nilon Tallant be reappointed City Health Officer <br />for the term September 9, 1968 to September 8, 1969. <br />Mr. Smith seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />The Mayor read aloud a letter from the Planning U Zoning <br />Commission recommending Council approval of a change of <br />zoning, see attached. Mr. Zavesky moved that Lots 18, <br />19, 28 u 29 of the A.M. Ramsay Addition be changed from <br />a zoning of ~R-l" (single family residential) to "M"(mixed). <br />Dr. Pool seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mr. Dannelley reminded members of the Council that Thursday, <br />September 19 w s the date set for a picnic at Potters Creek <br />area, Canyon Lake. It was agreed the picnic would start <br />at 5:00 p.m. <br /> <br />The Mayor reported he had been invited by Chairman <br />Judson Williams, Mayor of El Paso, to be a member of a <br />Special Legislative Committee, and that he would atte~d <br />his. first meeting in Austin, August 27. Mr. Serur said <br />a number of bills affecting municipal affairs were sched- <br />uled for the nect session of the Texas Legislature. <br />Purpose of the Committee is ~o study which bills would <br />benefit cities, and which might have an adverse effect, <br />if enacted. <br /> <br />Dr. Pool mentioned the need for continuing study of traffic <br />problems and ways to alleviate them. He stated that 9,000 <br />students would enroll next month at SWTSC, bringing extra <br />congestion on Lyndon B. Johnson Drive. <br /> <br />Councilman Zavesky introduced the subject of a civic center I <br />for San Marcos. Dr. Pool recalled that the Department of <br />Health, Education and Welfare will approve a grant only if <br />a building is planned for multi~purpose use. Mr. Bean said <br />only $100,000 was voted for a civic center in the bond issue. <br />All agreed this was not enough to provide an Bdequate building. <br /> <br />W.W. "Bill" Cox, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, <br />said the Board of Directors had discussed the urgent need for <br />a civic center, and would pledge their complete support in <br />getting such a program started. <br /> <br />The Council adjourned at 8:05 p.m. <br /> <br />~~ ./~~/ <br />'c:=fct' - . .'
