<br />The Mayor called the m~eting to order at 7:30 p,m.

<br />The Minutes ~ere approved as presented, oh moti6nof Councilman
<br />Zavesky and second of Councilman Smith.

<br />The Mayor opened a public hearing on the 1968-69 Budget.
<br />Councilman Smith moved '.approve!l of the Budget as 'presente:d.
<br />Dr. - Pool seconded the motion. Herbert.V arbrough, representative
<br />of the Lions Club, requested that the Council include funds in the
<br />new budget to bring the Little League playing fields up to national
<br />standard. He said San Marcos could not affiliate with National
<br />Little League until this was done. Cost would be about $20,000,
<br />but the Lions Club would be satisfied with $5,000 this year, if
<br />members could be assured of the continuing financial support of the
<br />City during the next four or five years, until the fields were
<br />improved to meet national specifications.
<br />Mrs. Veidt enquired whether the budget provided for a five percent
<br />increase in salary for all City employees. The City Manager said
<br />the Council had decided to give employees a ten percent raise
<br />"across the board". The Mayor announced that the Council had voted
<br />to give the City Manager a'$l,OOO raise. Ther~ being so further

<br />The Mayor declared the 1968-69 Budget approved as presented.
<br />
<br />Councilman Smith move-dthat' the tax rate be set cit$2.00 per $100
<br />valuation. Councilman Flores seconded the motion, which passed
<br />unanimously.
<br />
<br />Dr. Craddock moved approval of the ordinance setting the tax rate.
