<br />regular meeting, september 9, 1968 <br /> <br />page two <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE LEVYING TAXES FOR THE USE AND <br />SUPPORT OF THE MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT OF THE <br />CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS; PROVIDING A SINK- <br />ING FUND FOR THE RETIREMENT OF THE BONDED <br />DEBT OF SAID CITY; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY <br /> <br />Councilman Dannelley seconded the motion and on roll call <br />the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: Craddock, Dannelley, Flores, Pool, Serur, <br />Sm~th and Zavesky <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />NA Y: None <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the Ordinance Passed, Approved and <br />Adopted. <br /> <br />The Mayor opened a public hearing on the proposed <br />annexation of 10.947 acres. <br />W.H. Hamilton, jr., co-owner with Tom Hamilton of the <br />10.947 acres, protesting the annexation, said he and his <br />brother would be damaged financially by the annexation. <br />Mr. Hamilton said while he was serving on the Planning and <br />Zoning Commission, members had recommended that the Council <br />annex a large area adjacent to the present city limits. <br />After a public hearing, the Council voted to delay annexation. <br />Mr. Hamilton .asked the Council why, after almost a year, the <br />10.947 acres had been selected for annexation. The Mayor <br />said the action was taken in response to the request of <br />several property=owners in the area. J.E. Younger, jr., <br />Chairman of the Planning & Zoning Commission, stated there <br />were other areas already being partially served by the City <br />that should be annexed first. "You're being selective", I <br />Mr. Younger said. A general discussion ensued, with various <br />persons living adjacent to the IO.947-acre tract expressing <br />opinions. The public hearing being c~ncluded, Dr. Pool <br />moved that the annexation ordinance be passed on first reading. <br />Councilman Dannelley s~conded the motion and on roll call, <br />the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: Craddock, _Dannelley, Flores, Pool, Serur, <br />Smith, Zavesky <br /> <br />NAY: None <br /> <br />The Mayo~ declared the Ordinance Passed Qn first reading. <br /> <br />W. W.Cox, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, <br />reported to the Council that the Directors had recommended <br />unanimously that the Council re~open City Park to the use <br />of trailers. He stated closing of the Park had had an ad- <br />verse effect. on the economy of San Marcos the past Summer. <br />Councilman Smith moved that the Council reconsider previous <br />action, and reopen City Park to everyone - to all trailers. <br />Dr. Pool seconded the motion. The matter was di~cussed <br />further. Dr. Craddock said she wanted to go on record as <br />believeing that the present situation (use of the Park by <br />both trailers and t.he general public seeking r.ecreation) <br />as untenable for both groups. Mr. Cox brought out that' <br />improvements made ,in the Park for trailers had been more <br />than paid for by the fees collected.
