Goodman, <br />Jerri Veidt, Charlotte Crisp <br /> <br />The Mayor called the mE;eting to order at. 7:30 P..M. <br /> <br />The Rev. Sam Junkin, pastor of First Presbyterian Chu.rch, <br />gave the Invocation. Mr. Junkin said he would like to raise <br />the question .of the validity of having only pastors to give an <br />invocation, since members of the Council were more aware of the <br />particular things that should be prayed for. Mr. Junkin brought <br />up another matter : the general lack of interest among the. leaders <br />of the community in a group of interested citizens called UBridge <br />Buildersu.. Goal of the loosely-structured organization is to <br />establish dialogu~betweE;n peoples of different ethnic and ec~nomic <br />background, to dis~uss community problems and possible solutions. <br /> <br />The Minutes of the meeting of November 25, 1968 were approved as <br />presented, on. motion of Mr. Zavesky a nd second of Mr. Smith. <br /> <br />Two representativ<;s of Baptist Student Union came before the <br />Council to request permission for a religious procession starting <br />from the Square at 6:00 p.m., December 19. Mr. Smith moved that <br />the Council grant permission,. and if a permit from the Police <br />Department be required, that it &e issued. Mr. Dannelley seconded <br />the motion, whichpasse~ unanimously. <br /> <br />Jack Goodman, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the A.ustin- <br />Travis County Organization for.Regional Planning, came before the <br />Council to explain the Capital Area Council of Governments~ <br />Mr. Goodman explained the advantages of uCOGu, and answered quest- <br />ions po~ed by Council Members. The Mayor thanked'Mr. Goodman for <br />a good presen~ation, and it was agreed that the Council would make <br />a further study of uCACOGu, as it would relate to San Marcos, before <br />making a decision. <br />Mrs. Tom Brasher, President of the League. of Woman Voters. of <br />San Marcos, told the Council that the local League had made a stwdy <br />of CQuncil .of Governments, and had been asked bY,the Austin League <br />to cooperate in uCACOG~.. She offered to cooperate in.a workshop <br />with the Council, and to make available to them a great deal of <br />material on the subject. . It was agreed that such a workshmp <br />would be scheduled at an ~arly date. <br />
