regular meeting, february 10, 1969

page two

Mr. Taylor said the Parks & Wecreation Board was
prepared to allot $5,000 of the budgeted amount
toward a three-year program to bring the lighting
system up to national standards, provided the City
would give a like amount from the General Fund.
He stated the total program, over a three-year
period, would cost $30,000. Mr. Taylor said the
Lions Club would spend a considerable amount on
standardizing the fields, with the anticipation
that San Marcos could attract national play-offs
and tournaments. Councilman Smith moved that the
City designate $5,000 from the General Fund each
year for three years, to supplement an equal amount
from the Parks & Recreation budget over the same
period, for installation of adequate lighting on
the Little League ball fields in City Park.
Councilman Pool seconded the motion and on roll
call, the following vote was recorded:

I

AYE: Craddock, Dannelley, Flores, Pool,
Serur, Smith, Zavesky

NAY: None

The Mayor declared the motion carried.

Dr. Craddock enquired whether any of the remaining
funds from the Parks & Recreation budget would be
used to assist in the development of the proposed
recreation area being sponsored by Bridgebuilders.
Mr. Taylor assured the Council that Bridgebuilders' ,
project on the old Dunbar School property would be
assisted with Parks & Recreation budgeted ,funds.

I

Herbert Yarbrough, Secretary and Coordinator of the
Lions Club Little League program, thanked the Council
for their cooperation and assistance in plans to bring
the ball fields up to state and national standards.

David Pool appeared before the Council with a petition
from a group of Hays County citizens living in the
area of Lime Kiln Road and Hunters' Glen. The petition,
signed by twenty-seven persons, was read aloud by the
Mayor, see attached. Assistance and cooperation of the
City was requested in prevention of littering on Lime
Kiln Road. Mr. Pool explained that a similar, petition
had been sent to Hays County Commissioners Court, since
Lime Kiln Road is out o~ ~heCity Limits, and enforce-
ment of the State's anti-littering law would be the
res~onsibilityof the County. The petitioners asked
that the eity make a higher charge for trash trans-
ported to the City Dump in an uncovered vehicle, and
that the City and County assume joint responsibility
for keeping Lime ,Kiln Road clean. Councilman Flores I
enquired whether the petitioners had contacted the
public school officials in regard to violations of the
anti-littering law, since he knew the school does not
use covered trucks for taking trash to the Dump.
Councilman Dan~elley moved that a study be made of
the ~rash problem on Lime Kiln Road. Dr. Craddock
seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
