The letter is attached as a <br />part of the Minutes. The Mayor read a letter from'Dr. Billy J. <br />Hinton, Chairman of th~~lanning & Zoning Co~mission, on the <br />same matter " see attached. Recommendations of the Planner and <br />the Commission appt'oving a change. of zoning: from "R-l" to "0" <br />on the tract were discus'sed. Among those who spoke' to the <br />question from the floor were ~rs. Ruth Thomas, M..~; Keith <br />Hoffman, Mrs, Jo Ann Riley, Mri. Ross Compton, J.B. Robet'ts. <br />former Chairman of the Planning & Zoning Commission, Vernon <br />McDonald, Vinton J. Hartwell, Kenneth Sutton, Travis "fate <br />and Phillip Yochem. Those who protested the change of zoning <br />to allow multi-family construction on the2.9-acre tract on <br />Lamar Street, objected, for the most part, to further congestion <br />of traffic in the area north of the College. Dr. Ct'addock moved <br />that the t'ecommendation of the Planning & Zoning Commission be <br />appt'oved., and the request fbr a change of zoning from "R-l" to <br />"0" on the 2. 9-ac..et..act on Lamar Street be granted. There was <br />no second. Councilman. S!!,i th moved that the ..equest for a <br />change of zoning ohthe 2.9~acre tract on Lamar Street be denied. <br />Councilman Zavesky seconded the motion, and the following vote <br />was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br />ABSTAIN: <br /> <br />Smith, Zavesky <br />Cpaddock, Flores, Set'ur, Ponl <br />Dannelley <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion defeated. <br />
