<br />regular meeting, may 12, 1969 <br /> <br />page two <br /> <br />The Mayor reminded the Council that an appointment must <br />be made ~o fill the vacancy on the U~ban Renewal Board <br />created by the resignation of Eliazar Salinas. Mr. Flores <br />moved that Jose R. Hinojosa be appointed to the Urban <br />Renewal Board. Dr. Craddock seconded the motion and on <br />roll call the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: Craddock, Contreras, Dannelley, Flores, Serur, <br />Smith, Zavesky <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />NAY: None <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />It was agreed by common consent that the vacancy on the <br />Citizens Advisory Committee would be filled at the next <br />meeting. <br /> <br />Mr. Dannelley moved that Albert Aranda, Roy Buffington, <br />Herman Korff and Ruben Ruiz be appointed to the Board of <br />Equalization, 1969. Mr. Serur seconded the motion, which <br />passed unanimously. It was agreed by common consent that <br />a fifth member would be appointed at the next meeting, <br /> <br />The Mayor read aloud a letter from one group of "Bridge- <br />builders", see attached. Following a report on the group's <br />activities in an anti-rat and anti~roach campaign, members <br />requested $400 for purchase of more insecticide to complete <br />spraying an additional 200 houses b~dly infested with <br />roaches. Volunteers were organized to finish the job. <br />The project was discussed. it being agreed that an educat- <br />ional campaign should ~ccompany the spraying. Mr. Flores <br />added that the spray~ng itself is "educational", since I <br />many didn't know it could be done. Mr. Contreras stressed <br />the immediacy of the need, and said he did not think educat- <br />ion should be a prerequisite for assisting the program. <br />H.C. Jackson, member of Bridgebuilders, testified to the <br />urgent need for continuing ,the spraying of houses ,for roaches. <br />Dr. Craddock moved that $400 be given to B~idgebuiiders to <br />buy spray to complete the anti-roach program. Mr. Contreras <br />se~onded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />The Council considered, the alternate flood control plan ~hat <br />had previously been presented to the Council by the U.S.' <br />Corps of Engineers. Mr. Zavesky moved that the City .reject <br />the Fiood Control Plan a~ presented by the Corps of Engineers, <br />as this plan doe~ not provide for water re-charge of the <br />Edwards Underground Stream; and also moved that the City again <br />go on record supporting the Cloptin Crossing Dam; and that the <br />Soil Conservation Service proceed with their study. Mr. Smith <br />seconded the motion. On roll call. the follo~ing vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br />ABSTAIN: <br /> <br />Craddock, Datll1elley, Flores, Serur, Smith, Zavesky <br />Non'e <br />Contreras <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />The Mayor stated that the terms of Mrs. Ruby Slaughter and <br />the ~ev. Richmond McKinney as members of the Library Board <br />would expire in June. H~ moved that the two ~embers be <br />reappointed. Dr. Craddock seconded the motion, which passed <br />unanimously. <br />
