efforts to provide healthy and well balanced meals. They also want to have a lecture series for <br />• healthy living with twelve lectures per year. Topics would include diet, exercise, nutrition and <br />healthy lifestyles. Also, they are recommending that we have positive signage and images <br />around town engaging in sports, walking the dog, etc. Another recommendation was that <br />citizens could go to a centrally located City office to pick up a pedometer that would be provided <br />by local sponsors. This would help to encourage students to attain high level of fitness as <br />measured by Fitnessgram. They created 10 rules for healthy citizens and want to advertise free <br />physical activities in San Marcos. The final recommendation is to meet annually in March for <br />two meetings minimum to discuss progress, additions and changes in direction. <br />The City Council accepted the recommendations and directed them to go forward. <br />24. Update and discussion on the Residential Single Stream Recycling Program and <br />provide direction to staff. <br />Jo Secrest, Public Services Program Coordinator, reported that it has been one year since this <br />program began. Over 1,200 tons of single stream recyclable have been collected: an increase of <br />over 500 tons from the previous year. The participation rate is 50 %. Because the program has <br />done so well, the City is eligible for $3,000 worth of trees. TDS is still working on a Smart <br />Rewards Program as an added benefit. Also, the multi- family program is looking very <br />promising, and staff will bring more information later. <br />• 25. Adiournment. <br />MOTION: Upon a motion made by Councilmember Jones and a second by Councilmember <br />Terry, the City Council voted seven (7) for and none (0) opposed, to adjourn the regular session <br />of the San Marcos City Council at 9:49 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, 2010.
