the project centerline, setting 60d nails or similar markings for all PC's, PT's and
at 500' foot even stations.
d) Pavement Borehole Staking and Locations: The Engineer will stake up to 20
borehole locations one time each. Locations will be marked with a 60d nail, hub or
similar material and a lathe. In addition, the Engineer will obtain a surface elevation
for each location.
1.2.10 Provide a preliminary engineering report (PER) to include:
a) A preliminary cost estimate using approved roadway design criteria and average low
bid unit prices from at least two sources. The Engineer will separate the estimate into
each improvement for estimation and planning purposes.
b) Matrix based analysis to compare three options.
i) Matrix parameters will be based on utility, traffic, right-of--way, geotechnical,
environmental, roadway design criteria and other agreed upon criteria. The
Engineer will provide suggested criteria in consultation with the City. The City
and the Engineer will agree to analyze each option; and
ii) Provide a recommended option based on matrix analysis.
c) The final report summarizing the findings of the preliminary design phase to include
recommendations and the final design parameters that will be necessary to begin the
next phase of design. The Engineer will prepare one (1) draft version of the final
report for City review and approval. After incorporating City comments, the
Engineer will prepare two (2) copies of the final version of the PER outlining the
approach for design phase.
1.3 TASK 3 -CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS AND TECHNICAL
SPECIFICATIONS
The Engineer will prepare final construction plans and technical specifications in
accordance with AASHTO, TxDOT and City design criteria. For the purpose of this scope of
work it is assumed that Option 1 will be further developed and constructed. The Engineer will
provide the following plan sections:
1.3.1 Roadway Design Plans/Details to include:
a) Final design of horizontal alignment and vertical profile for LBJ;
b) Final typical sections for LBJ, to include two (2) existing sections and two (2)
proposed sections;
c) Preparation of seven (7) plan/profile sheets for LBJ reconstruction at a scale of
1 "=50' horizontal. Sheets will include project baseline stationing, pavement width,
lane configuration, profile data, curve data, and begin/end of project;
d) Preparation of major intersection layouts for LBJ/Sessom, to include intersection
radii, grading contours, key elevations, sidewalk and ramp locations, plan view and
profile ofcross-street;
10
