b) Review of existing bicycle and pedestrian facilities and new facilities through the
TxState campus; and
c) Review of utility locations to determine potential conflicts and required adjustments.
1.2.2 Prepare preliminary layouts for three design options.
a) Option 1 will include maintaining existing right-of--way on LBJ from Sessom to
Holland and design a two or three-lane section based on available right-of--way. No
improvements or changes to Chestnut will be proposed and LBJ will remain two-way
traffic;
b) Option 2 will include construction of a three-lane section from Sessom to Holland
and acquire the necessary right-of--way to construct this section. No improvements or
changes to Chestnut will be proposed and LBJ will remain two-way traffic.
c) Option 3 will include conversion of LBJ and Chestnut to 1-way traffic. No right-of-
way will be acquired in this option.
1.2.3 Prepare one (1) typical section for LBJ and/or Chestnut for each option under 1.2.2.
1.2.4 Perform a drainage analysis that will include a drainage flood study prepared for the City
by Espey Engineers, and incorporate applicable elements into the design.
1.2.5 Perform geotechnical investigations to form the basis for construction and pavement
design recommendations, including waterline design, as well as locate topographic features that
may impact construction including:
a) Perform a visual condition survey of Chestnut Street. The Engineer will survey the
1,400 linear feet of pavement of Chestnut Street in order to identify the distress
mechanisms and extent of distress. In addition, the Engineer will visually inspect the
roadway to identify distress types including cracking (fatigue, longitudinal, and
transverse), block cracking, bleeding, and raveling;
b) LBJ Drive: Drill and sample 8 borings to a depth of 10 feet.
c) Two retaining walls: Drill and sample 4 borings to a depth of 25 ft each.
d) Chestnut Street: Drill and sample 4 pavement borings to a depth of 5 ft each.
e) Perform a laboratory investigation to Consist o£
i) moisture contents;
ii) Atterberg limit determination;
iii) gradation analyses;
iv) unconfined compression tests;
v) corrosion potential;
f) Prepare an engineering report to include:
i) plan of borings and logs of borings;
ii) results of laboratory testing;
iii) flexible pavement thickness design for LBJ Drive using TxDOT procedures;
iv) geotechnical parameters for retaining walls including allowable bearing pressures,
4
