<br />220. <br />Regular Meeting <br /> <br />June 14, 2004 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />Session. He stated he is concerned about development along Sink Creek. <br />He reminded Council what happened to Barton Creek and the situation in <br />Austin. 5) Lorraine Spencer stated she wished to speak regarding Item 42, <br />Executive Session. She stated she has lived in San Marcos for 10 years <br />and the river is what brought her here. She also stated if the City is <br />considering spending $20 million on a hotel, then she feels this expense <br />should be decided by the citizens. 6) Camille Phillips stated she wished <br />to speak regarding Item 42, Executive Session. She stated she would love <br />to see a Convention Center in San Marcos. She also stated she would first <br />like to see a market feasibility study. She encouraged the Council to <br />take this issue slow and to do their homework. 7) Lin Spatcher stated he <br />wished to speak regarding Item 42, Executive Session. He stated he <br />opposes the Convention Center and feels this issue should be voted on by <br />the citizens. 8) Gloria Salazar stated she wished to speak regarding <br />Item 42, Executive Session. She encouraged the Council to support the <br />proposed Convention Center. She also stated there are a lot of citizens <br />who would be grateful to work for $25,000.00 a year. She also stated she <br />feels if the City does not support the proposed Convention Center, the <br />landowner could sell the property to someone else and the University has <br />nowhere else to expand. The State could then take the property of the tax <br />rolls. She also encouraged the Council to support Item 25, Willow Springs <br />Senior Residence Development. <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced the Staff Report. 1) Mr. O'Leary apologized to <br />the community for not making arrangements to fly the American Flag at City <br />Hall on Memorial Day. <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced for consideration approval of one appointment to <br />fill a vacancy on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. Mr. Guerrero <br />moved to appoint Keven Roles to complete the vacancy, which passed <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced for consideration approval of one appointment to <br />fill a vacancy on the Main Street Advisory Board. Mr. Thomaides moved to <br />appoint Bill Taylor as a Council Member representative, which passed <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />AYE: <br /> <br />Diaz, Guerrero, Mihalkanin, Narvaiz, Thomaides and Bose. <br /> <br />NAY: None. <br /> <br />ABSTAIN: Taylor. <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced for consideration approval of one appointment to <br />fill a vacancy on the Transportation Advisory Board. No appointments were <br />made and the appointment will be rescheduled. <br />
