Special Meeting September 8, 1981 Page 6 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, APPROVING A DEPOSITORY CONTRACT BETWEEN THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, AND HAYS COUNTY NATIONAL BANK. Mrs. Norris moved to adopt the Resolution and Mrs. Mendez seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Mayor Craddock announced there would be a discussion of the "No Park- ing'' on Hopkins Street near Guadalupe Street intersection (alongside First Federal Savings). Ms. Pat~y Sullivan addressed the Council on behalf of First Federal Savings. First Federal is in the process of remodeling their building, which includes an opening onto Hopkins Street, for the customers who would have been parking in the five parallel spaces alongside their building on Hopkins Street. Some time ago the City had taken away their two parking spaces in front of their building on Guadalupe and if the City took these five spaces on the side of their building away, they would have no City parking spaces for their customers, which they thought was very unfair. First Federal purchased ~he old Palace Theater next to their building, which provides two parking spaces on Guadalupe. Ms. Sullivan recommended the City consider parallel parking across the street from their build- ing on Hopkins if more roadway easement was needed. The Staff advised the Council that it was the State's recommendation this parallel park- ing next to First Federal Savings be removed and that it was not pos- sible to obtain the needed roadway space by providing parallel parking across the street from First Federal on Hopkins - it would still lack three feet on the opposite side. Robert Minnie advised the Council the parking space next to First Federal was needed for roadway so that the centerline of the street on Hopkins could line up. There was some discussion of possibly providing a protection left turn for the left lane and the right lane would be able to flow through more easily. Mr. Gonzalez stated that the Master Plan that was being drawn was addressing the traffic concerns of the downtown area and that he did not envision this as an ultimate solution to the traffic concerns. Mrs. Norris requested Staff to investigate the parallel parking across the street from First Federal on Hopkins and a protective left turn lane. The meeting adjourned at 9:55 p.m. on motion of Mr. James and seconded by Mrs. Mendez. Karl W.
