He stated the Downtown <br />Association supports this project and the 200 jobs this project will <br />create. He stated he feels this project will bring thousands of people to <br />San Marcos and several benefits to the local businesses. Mr. Rasco stated <br />Mr. Hammons wants to build at this location because of the resources, so <br />he does not think Mr. Hammons will want to damage the resources. 4) Gwen <br />Smith stated she wished to speak regarding Item 7, adoption of a <br />Resolution regarding the Hotel/Convention Center. She stated the Economic <br />Development Council, Builders Association and both Chambers of Commerce <br />support this project. She stated the citizens are opposed to the location <br />being so close to the headquarters of the San Marcos River and that it is <br />time for the citizens to rally to change. 5) Lupe Carbajal stated he <br />wished to speak regarding Item 7, adoption of a Resolution regarding the <br />Hotel/Convention Center. He stated he supports this project and wants San <br />Marcos to be a destination. He stated he feels the City of San Marcos <br />needs the jobs and the tax base and we need to help our future. He stated <br />he knows the Council will look at the environmental concerns, and we need <br />to do this project now while we have the opportunity. 6) Lorraine Spencer <br />stated she wished to speak regarding Item 7, adoption of a Resolution <br />regarding the Hotel/Convention Center. She encouraged the Council to give <br />this project to the citizens to vote on. She stated the occupancy of <br />hotels/motels in Austin-San Marcos have declined since 2000. She stated <br />she feels the City of San Marcos cannot handle the drainage off the <br />hotel/convention center. 7) Ollie Giles stated she wished to speak <br />regarding Item 7, adoption of a Resolution regarding the Hotel/Convention <br />Center. She stated she is against the hotel/convention center because of <br />additional traffic and the close proximity to the railroad tracks. The <br />City needs to concentrate on the overpass on Wonder World to the hospital <br />and to concentrate on the Loop around San Marcos. She feels this project <br />should be located near the outlet malls. She also stated she is opposed <br />to the placement of buildings at the Mitchell Center. She stated she <br />wants the Dunbar Neighborhood to stay residential. 8) Mary Duran stated <br />she wished to speak regarding Item 7, adoption of a Resolution regarding <br />the Hotel/Convention Center. She stated she is opposed to the <br />Hotel/Convention Center due to the traffic at the intersection. She <br />recently had a car accident in this area. The existing traffic from <br />Travis Elementary and the University is heavy and this project would bring <br />additional traffic. She encouraged the Council to allow the citizens to <br />be allowed to vote on this issue. 9) Homer Guerrero stated he wished to <br />speak regarding Item 7, adoption of a Resolution regarding the <br />Hotel/Convention Center. He stated he is Chairman of the Board of the <br />Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He stated this project will bring needed <br />jobs, growth and businesses to our community. He encouraged the Council <br />to support this project. 10) E. W. D'Anton stated he wished to speak <br />regarding Item 7, adoption of a Resolution regarding the Hotel/Convention <br />Center. He encouraged the Council to allow the citizens vote on this <br />project. 11) Pam Couch stated she wished to speak regarding Item 7, <br />adoption of a Resolution regarding the Hotel/Convention Center.
