The City regulations for building contractors are intended to help ensure <br />quality construction and construction code compliance for residences and businesses in <br />the City. <br /> <br />2. The City Council wishes to change the residential contractor licensing <br />regulations to include; removing the requirement that residential contractors provide <br />proof of insurance for licensing, requiring residential contractors to show proof of <br />registration with the Texas Residential Contractors. Commission for licensing, and <br />requiring a residential contractor applying for a building permit on work valued at less <br />than $20,000 to provide proof that the homeowner knows whether the contractor has <br />Insurance. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. Section 14.375 of the San Marcos City Code is amended as follows <br />(underlininq indicates added text, strikothrough indicates deleted text): <br /> <br />Sec. 14.375. Certificate of insurance required for contractors. <br /> <br />(a) A person who applies for a qeneral building contractor's license shall provide <br />the inspection division a certificate of insurance that meets the requirements of <br />subsection (b) of this section. The building inspection division will not issue a <br />license until it receives the certificate of insurance. <br /> <br />(b) A certificate of insurance shall: <br /> <br />(1) be written by a company licensed to do business in the State of Texas; <br /> <br />(2) provide for commercial general liability insurance coverage for the <br />builder for claims Jor property damage or bodily injury, including products and <br />completed operations; and <br /> <br />(3) be in a coverage amount of not less than $300,000 for all claims, <br />including products and completed operations, arising in anyone year period. <br />
