5) Asphalt/Pavement
a) Perform laboratory compaction tests of base materials to determine their moisture content
versus dry density relationships;
b) Perform compaction tests on aggregate base material;
c) Measure thickness of base materials for compliance with project requirements; and
d) Obtain core samples of the in-place bituminous concrete pavement and verify
proper thickness and density of the pavement materials.
6) Structural Steel
a) Inspect structural steel on a periodic basis during erection;
b) Visually inspect representative welds in general accordance with AWS 131.1; and
c) Inspect high strength bolted connections with a calibrated wrench in accordance with
AISC specification.
7) NPDES Inspections
Provide engineering technicians to observe and monitor the installation and maintenance of
the construction site's surface water erosion controls, as required by the construction plans and
NPDES permit requirements.
8) Reporting Services
Report the results of our field and laboratory tests to other members of the construction team,
as you request.
The Consultant's services do not include supervision or direction of the actual construction
work. Neither the presence of the Consultant's field representative nor the observation and
testing by the Consultant will imply the Consultant's responsibility for defects discovered in the
construction work. It is understood that the Consultant will not be responsible for job or site
safety on this project. Job site safety will be the sole responsibility of others. The words
"inspection" and "verify" are used to mean observation of the work and the conducting of tests
by the Consultant to determine substantial compliance with plans, specifications and design
concepts.
Additionally, the services proposed herein are conventional in nature and do not include any special
services that may lessen the risk of conditions that can contribute to moisture, mold or other microbial
contaminate amplification in buildings. The City understands that mold is abundant throughout
nature and is comprised of a wide variety of microscopic fungi. Due to its nature, the potential for
mold infestations cannot be completely eliminated. However, the Consultant offers a wide array of
professional Moisture, Waterproofing, Roofing and Indoor Air Quality/Mold Consulting services that
can help minimize the likelihood of future occurrences which are available to the City as additional
services. If requested by the City, the Consultant will submit a proposal for these additional services
under a separate cover for the City's review and authorization.
4
