Taxiway E connects Runway 12 and the
ramp. Taxiway E is 550 feet long by 40
feet wide and is located at the eastern
end of the airport ramp area near the
Confederate Air Force hangar.

Taxiway F connects Taxiway C with the
joint thresholds of Runways 30 and 35.

Taxiway J connects Runway 17 to
Runway 4-22 and is 2,100 feet long and
50 feet wide.

Airfield Lighting

Airport lighting systems extend an
airport's usefulness into periods of
darkness and/or poor visibility. Several
lighting systems are installed at the
airport for this purpose. These lighting
systems, categorized by function, are
described as follows.

Identification Lighting: The location
of the airport at night is universally
indicated by the rotating beacon. A
rotating beacon displays alternating
flashes of white and green lights to
identifY the airport. The location of the
rotating beacon on the south side of the
airport is indicated on Exhibit 1C.

Runway and Taxiway Lighting:
Runway and taxiway lighting utilize
light fixtures placed near the pavement
edge to define the lateral limits of the
pavement. This lighting is essential for
safe operations during night and/or
times of low visibility in order to
maintain safe and efficient access to
and from the runway and aircraft
parking areas. Medium intensity
runway lights (MIRL) are provided
on Runways 8-26 and 12-30. At San
Marcos Municipal the runway lighting

systems are controlled through a pilot
controlled lighting system (PCL)
which allows pilots to increase the
intensity of various airfield lighting
systems from the aircraft with the use
of the aircraft's radio transmitter. San
Marcos Municipal Airport users have
options for low, medium, and high
intensity lights by microphone keying 3,
5, or 7 times respectively.

Runway End Identification Lights
(REILs) provide rapid and positive
identification of the approach end of a
runway. REILs are typically used on
runways without more sophisticated
approach lighting systems. The REIL
systems consists of two synchronized
flashing lights, located laterally on each
side of the runway facing the approach
aircraft. REILs are installed on
Runway 8-26. The REIL system on
Runway 26 is currently inoperable.

Taxiways are lighted per FAA
requirements, with centerlines marked
by reflectors. Directional signs are
lighted providing way finding for local
and itinerant night traffic.

Approach Lighting: Approach
lighting is installed for the purpose of
directing the aircraft to the end of the
active runway. Approach lighting can
aid in both visual and instrument
landings. At San Marcos Municipal
Airport the four box V ASI to the left of
the approach end of Runway 30 aids in
visual approaches. The lights indicate
vertical alignment to aircraft on final
approach.

Runway 12 is equipped with Medium
Intensity Approach Lighting System
(MALSR) with Runway Alignment
Indicator Lights. This system allows

1-9
