management and leasing. Gryphon
leases space east of the new T -hangars
on the apron and just west of the
Confederate Air Force operations. The
address is 2049 Airport Drive.

Gafford Aero

Gafford Aero is the oldest operation on
the field. Gafford offers airframe and
engine maintenance and is located in T-
hangar area A at the west end.

Confederate Air Force

San Marcos Municipal Airport is also
home to the famed Central Texas Wing
of the Confederate Air Force which
leases the hangar at the east end of the
operations area 2249 Airport Drive.
Vintage military fighter and attack
aircraft of the 1939 - 1945 era are on
display. The annual air show, A
Gathering of Memories, which features
these aircraft, attracts thousands of
visitors from all over the state. The CAF
hangar also houses a museum ofWWII
artifacts.

UTILITIES

The availability and capacity of the
utilities serving the airport are
important factors in determining the
development potential and level of
service to existing and future users. The
following information is supplied to
better determine the San Marcos
Airport's ability to provide service to its
users.

The airport is supplied water via the
City of San Marcos system. The airport

1-12

maintains the old military sanitary
sewer and storm sewer systems. Due to
the unavailability of metal for pipe
during the time of construction, the
sanitary sewer system was constructed
of tile. A system of this age and type
construction is believed to still be
serviceable, yet subject to leakage.
Likewise the storm sewer system is of
World War II vintage and has failed in
specific locations. Potential drainage
problems could eventually arise that
inhibit airport operations and
development.

Electrical service is provided to the
airport by Pedernales Electric
Cooperative (PEC). The airport is not
currently served with three-phase
electricity. Natural gas is not currently
supplied to the airport.

ROADS

The airport is served by a main road
which accesses all available ground
services, including the terminal,
hangars, and parking areas. After the
split of property from the Gary Job
Corps Center, the road centerline was
used to locate the property line and
place the fence dividing each property.
Since this resulted in a single driving
lane on either side of the fence, road
was hastily laid to allow sufficient
width for two way traffic. The road is in
serviceable condition, but needs
resurfacing in several locations.

AREA AIRSPACE AND
AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL

The FAA Act of 1958 established the
FAA as the responsible agency for the
