He stated he also <br />attended a meeting on Regulation and Action on water, effective runoff <br />system programs. He stated HUD is currently streamlining the Flooding <br />Assistance Program to help cities to get this type of grant funding. Mr. <br />Bose also stated he attended a meeting with Mr. O'Leary and Mr. Thomaides <br />on how university cities are addressing their problems. 2) Mr. Thomaides <br />stated he also attended the National League of Cities Conference. He <br />stated the University Communities Caucus Meeting provided good ideas on how <br />other university communities deal with parking around the university and in <br />their downtowns, and single-family residential zoning requirements that <br />other university communities are using. He stated he also attended a <br />program on effectively communicating with members of Congress and their <br />staff. He stated the next day they met with staff members of Senators <br />Hutchison and Cornyn and Congressman Cuellar on important road projects and <br />the Wonder World Drive extension. He stated he picked up a lot of ideas <br />from Washington, D.C. which is pedestrian-friendly, and the Council wants <br />to make San Marcos more pedestrian friendly. 3) Mr. Guerrero stated he <br />wanted to thank the San Marcos River Foundation for the clean-up they <br />hosted on March 5, 2005. 4) Mr. Guerrero thanked the Society of Mexican- <br />American Engineers and Scientists for hosting their eleventh annual Science <br />Extravaganza on March 5, 2005. 5) Mr. Guerrero stated he attended an EMS <br />Board Meeting on Tuesday, March 15, 2005. He stated the board is trying to <br />identify communities with similar EMS programs and prepare a Master Plan <br />for EMS. 6) Mr. Guerrero stated he attended a meeting on Friday, March <br />25, 2005, with the Austin Apartment Association. He stated this group <br />identifies apartment property owners from Round Rock, Austin and San <br />Marcos. He stated he had an opportunity to meet with some of the San <br />Marcos Area private property manager~ to discuss some ideas of developing a <br />forum to meet with student residents and discuss good neighbor best <br />practices. He stated they also discussed securing agenda space on the <br />Texas State Orientation for all the new students coming onto campus in the <br />next couple of months. He stated he also wanted to thank Rolo Alvarez with <br />the City of Austin and Wells Fargo for the invitation to attend a banquet <br />for Huston-Tillison University, which has recently changed their name from <br />Huston-Tillison College. 7) Mayor Narvaiz stated she wrote a report for <br />the Council on the National League of Cities Conference, which is available <br />to the public. She stated last year when she attended the same conference, <br />the idea of the Student Liaison came from the University Caucus group. She <br />stated the Fire Department receiving some funding from the University was <br />also an idea from the conference last year, and the City adopted the <br />Resolution that Texas Municipal League moved forward. She stated she asked <br />her colleagues to consider going to give them the opportunity to learn what <br />other cities are doing. She stated Mayor Pro-Tern Thomaides did an <br />excellent job in introducing the map on the Wonder World Extension, and the <br />staff members asked us to quickly provide additional information so they <br />could put it through to Committee to be entered in the Reauthorization Bill <br />for Transportation. She stated we also asked for continued support on the <br />for the Municipal Airport, which wo~ld include the addition of a fire <br />station and other items to bring the Municipal Airport to a level to be <br />
