<br />Sec. 14.373. Qualifications for license. <br /> <br />(a) Residential contractor. This designation applies to construction limited to one and two family <br />dwellings, swimming pools and accessory buildings. A person applying for a residential contractor's <br />license shall provide verifiable docUlllentation offive years or more experience in the construction of <br />one and two family dwellings as a lead carpenter, construction foreman, or superintendent of <br />construction in the home building industry, and pass the required examination for the license. A <br />person may obtain a residential contractor license without passing the examination ifhe has a license <br />from a reciprocating jurisdiction under section 14.378, and has five years or more experience in the <br />construction of one and two family dwellings as a lead carpenter, construction foreman, or <br />superintendent of construction in the home building industry. <br /> <br />(b) General contractor. This designation applies to construction limited to multi-family dwellings, <br />office buildings, shopping centers, restaurants and similar structures. A person applying for a general <br />contractor's license shall provide verifiable documentation of five years or more experience in any of <br />the above construction types or a combination thereof, as ajob foreman, job superintendent, or project <br />manager in the commercial building industry, and pass the required examination for the license. A <br />person may obtain a general contractor license without passing the examination if he has a license <br />from a reciprocating jurisdiction under section 14.378 and five years or more experience in any of the <br />above construction types or a combination thereof, as a job foreman, job superintendent, or project <br />manager in the commercial building industry. <br /> <br />(c) Construction maintenance person. This designation applies to maintenance of existing buildings <br />or structures. A person applying for a construction maintenance person license shall pass the required <br />examination for this license. <br /> <br />Sec. 14.374. Application for examination. <br /> <br />( a) Applications for license examinations under this division will be made on a form furnished by the <br />building official. The application shall specify the applicant's experience and shall state whether the <br />applicant has ever been licensed as a contractor and, if so, when and by what jurisdiction; whether a <br />license held by the applicant has ever been suspended or revoked; and whether the applicant has ever <br />been refused a license and, if so, the date of and the reason for suspension, revocation or refusal. <br /> <br />(b) To determine whether the applicant is eligible to take the examination, the building official will <br />review each application to determine whether the applicant meets the qualifications described in <br />section 14.373. An applicant who is denied eligibility by the building official may submit a written <br />appeal to the construction board of adjustments and appeals. The board will hold a hearing and will <br />make a final decision on the applicant's eligibility. <br /> <br />(c) An examination will be given to the applicant at the next regularly scheduled testing date. Tests <br />will be offered not less than four times per year. A passing grade of70% is required. If an applicant is <br />unsuccessful in a second examination attempt, the applicant will not be reexamined for a period of one <br />year from the date of the second testing. No applicant will be tested more than two times in any 12- <br />month period. <br /> <br />Sec. 14.375. Examination fees. <br /> <br />32 <br />
