<br />143. <br />Regular Meeting <br /> <br />October 18, 2005 <br /> <br />Page 4 <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced the City Council Reports. 1) Mr. Thomaides <br />thanked the Fire Station #1 and Amy Kirwin for their hard work during the <br />neighborhood cleanup. 2) Mr. Thomaides stated the State Constitution <br />Amendment 1 would need to pass in order for the Commuter Rail to be <br />possible. He stated the State Constitution Amendment 1 is so the City and <br />State purchase railroad right-of-way for the commuter rail project. 3) <br />Mr. Guerrero thanked Texas State University for putting together the <br />University Survival Guide and for including information on being a good <br />neighbor. 4) Mr. Guerrero thanked Rodney Cobb for coordinating a tour of <br />the Activity Center and services the City provides for visitors from Salt <br />Lake City, Utah. 5) Kyle Morris stated the Associated Student Government <br />supports Proposition 6, supporting sidewalk expansion and bike lanes in the <br />City's Bond Election. 6) Mayor Narvaiz stated she attended the CTMC Gala, <br />which raised a large amount of funds for new equipment. 7) Mayor Narvaiz <br />thanked Staff for helping to make the State of the City Address a success. <br />8) Mayor Narvaiz stated she attended the High School Groundbreaking. She <br />stated she feels this new school is a positive move in the direction of <br />furthering education of the students in San Marcos. 9) Mayor Narvaiz <br />stated she participated in an economic development panel with the Mayors of <br />Buda and Kyle. 10) Mayor Narvaiz thanked Mark Gonzales, Congressman <br />Cuellar's Staff Member, for attending the Council Meeting. She stated <br />Congressman Cuellar and his Staff have been working hard on helping San <br />Marcos receive transportation funding. 11) Mayor Narvaiz stated she also <br />attended a CASA fundraiser, which also was successful in raising a large <br />amount of funds. 12) Mayor Narvaiz stated she attended the Hispanic <br />Scholarship Consortium luncheon. She stated this is a fundraiser to help <br />raise funds for scholarships. 13) Mr. Mark Taylor introduced the new <br />Assistant City Attorney Andrew Quittner and his wife, Kay. <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced for consideration approval of minutes of the <br />Regular Meeting held October 4, 2005, approval of minutes of the Special <br />Meeting held October 14, 2005, adoption of one Ordinance on third and final <br />reading, and adoption of nine Resolutions, on consent. The Council removed <br />Item 12, adoption of an Ordinance on third and final reading, to be <br />considered separately. Mr. Taylor moved for approval of minutes of the <br />Regular Meeting held October 4, 2005, approval of minutes of the Special <br />Meeting held October 14, 2005, and adoption of nine Resolutions (with <br />amendments to Item 21), and Mr. Guerrero seconded the motion, which passed <br />unanimously. The captions of the Resolutions read as follows: <br /> <br />Adoption of Resolutions: <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, <br />APPROVING THE APPOINTMENT OF ANDREW QUITTNER AS ASSISTANT CITY <br />ATTORNEY; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />
