while encouraging leadership, teamwork and an altruistic experience for the
youth. There is a group of retired persons that come in February to assist also in
the home
· Food Distribution: A food pantry is available to persons in the community. Once
a week 100 to 150 families receive a bag of groceries. This enables low-income
families to enhance their ability to feed their children and other family members
on a weekly basis.
. Thrift Store: Donated items are sorted for display by community volunteers and
sold for a minimal fee or if needed given free to clients. Proceeds from the store
support the direct services to the community. This service allows the center to
provide clothing and other needed items to families and children in a time of
need.
. Emergency Shelter: This program provides shelter for the transient population or
families and children that have been displaced from their homes on a temporary
basis. Dinner is provided daily to clients. Food and supplies are donated by
individuals, churches, organizations, and supported by the Thrift Store. The
Shelter may help as many as 125 monthly. This is a vital resource in the
community as it supplies a safe environment for women, children and families
during a transition period.
. Direct Assistance: Funds available on an as needed basis for assistance for rent,
utilities, medication, clothing, and survivors of disasters such as fire and flood
casualty. With additional funding the center would be able to reach a greater
populace to continue meeting a constant need for families and children.

Also the center has a soup kitchen, Christmas program, Thanksgiving Dinner and other
renovation programs.

03/22/02

2
