<br />Section V <br /> <br />Timeline of MORE 2001 Budget <br /> <br />The San Marcos Police intends to purchase an NEC combination LatentlTenprint <br />Automated Fingerprint Identification System. This system includes the NEC <br />hardware/software, i.e. monitor, computer, and related AFIS software. This system also <br />includes firewall and encryption devices, and router which is needed to connect the San <br />Marcos AFIS terminal with the Texas Department of Public Safety. <br />The San Marcos Police Department will be connecting to the Texas Department of Public <br />Safety (DPS) AFIS terminal in Austin, Texas. The DPS terminal is only compatible with <br />NEC technology. Because of this, the San Marcos Police will be able to expedite the <br />purchase of the AFIS technology through NEC. <br /> <br />The project timeline is as follows. <br /> <br />Month 1: Review exact equipment needs and prices \\iith NEe and Tx. DPS AFIS <br />personnel. <br />Month 2: Review cost of equipment and services with the vendor. <br />Month 3: Obtain purchase order from city purchasing agent; place order. <br />Month 4: Relocate evidence technician office in preparation of installation of equipment. <br />Month 5: Receive and install equipment. <br />Month 6: Begin system testing with NEC and DPS personnel. <br />Month 7: Make modifications/corrections to system to ensure error free operation. <br />Month 8: Texas Dept. of Public Safety personnel to train San Marcos Police personnel in <br />the use of AFIS terminal. <br />Month 9: Implement agency use of the AFIS terminal <br />Month 10: Monitor agency use of the terminal and adjust training as needed. <br />Month 11: Program to be fully operational. Evaluate "hits" made and errors. <br />Month 12: Redeploy officers and perform tracking. <br />
