Section VI, Part D

Redeployment Tracking Plan

In 2000, the San Marcos Police answered calls for sef\!ice. This number reflects an
10.72% increase from 1999. With the gro\ving population and the exponential grO\\th of
business, most notably the Outlet Mall, police officers will answer ever-increasing calls
for sef\!ice in 2001. Because of the growth of the city, many of these calls will result in a
large collection of evidentiary items most notably fingerprints. Officers collecting
fingerprints on offenses ranging from burglary to sexual assault will be able to identify
the offenders of these crimes faster than is currently possible.
Because the closest AFIS terminal is in Austin, Texas, investigators spend on average, 15
hours per week, driving the latent fingerprints to Austin. Because of the extreme backlog
of work at the Texas Dept. of Public Safety, an average wait of up to 6 months is not
unusual to receive the results from the latent submission. The following calculation \\'ill
be used to estimate the actual redeployment for a 12-month period:
Total number of cases having prints submitted to evidence totaled at the end of the 12-
month period times 15 (hours per week to submit prints) = Total Time Saved
Total Time Saved divided by STD number of hours per FTE = TOTAL FTE'S
