The City Code currently provides for assignment pay under Texas Local <br />Government Code Section 143.042 for Police Department personnel serving in Field Training <br />Officer, K-9 Handler, and Criminal Investigation special assignments. <br /> <br />2. The City Council desires to provide for assignment pay for Police Department <br />personnel in certain additional special assignment areas. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. Divisions 4, 5, and 6 of Article 2, Police Department, of Chapter 62, <br />Public Safety, of the City Code are repealed, and Division 2 of Article 2, Police Department, <br />of Chapter 62, Public Safety, of the City Code is adopted to read as follows: <br /> <br />DIVISION 2. SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT SERVICES <br /> <br />Sec. 62.056. Purposes. <br /> <br />The purposes of this division are: <br /> <br />(1) To provide specialized law enforcement services for the community based <br />on the increased skill levels of employees filling those assignments; <br /> <br />(2) To create and implement an effective selection, assignment and incentive <br />program for police officers to serve in special assignment programs; and <br /> <br />(3) To provide a uniform rate of pay for performance of these specialized <br />serVIces. <br /> <br />Sec. 62.092. Assignments; qualifications of employees. <br /> <br />(a) Officers holding the rank of police officer, corporal or sergeant who meet the <br />requirements set forth in this section may be assigned by the Chief of Police to perform <br />special assignment services under this division.
