ORDINANCE NO. 2001 - 29 RECITALS: 1. The City Code currently provides for assignment pay under Texas Local Government Code Section 143.042 for Police Department personnel serving in Field Training Officer, K-9 Handler, and Criminal Investigation special assignments. 2. The City Council desires to provide for assignment pay for Police Department personnel in certain additional special assignment areas. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: SECTION 1. Divisions 4, 5, and 6 of Article 2, Police Department, of Chapter 62, Public Safety, of the City Code are repealed, and Division 2 of Article 2, Police Department, of Chapter 62, Public Safety, of the City Code is adopted to read as follows: DIVISION 2. SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT SERVICES Sec. 62.056. Purposes. The purposes of this division are: (1) To provide specialized law enforcement services for the community based on the increased skill levels of employees filling those assignments; (2) To create and implement an effective selection, assignment and incentive program for police officers to serve in special assignment programs; and (3) To provide a uniform rate of pay for performance of these specialized serVIces. Sec. 62.092. Assignments; qualifications of employees. (a) Officers holding the rank of police officer, corporal or sergeant who meet the requirements set forth in this section may be assigned by the Chief of Police to perform special assignment services under this division. To be eligible for assignment, a person must:
