<br />(1) Exhibit advanced skills and abilities related to the functions of the special <br />assignment, as determined by a process defined by the chief of police; <br /> <br />(2) Be willing to participate in a departmental program to utilize and enhance <br />those skills and abilities; <br /> <br />(3) Be willing to comply with all policies and conditions that apply to the <br />special assignment; and <br /> <br />(4) Have successfully completed the probationary employment period, if the <br />person holds the rank of police officer. <br /> <br />(b) Special assignment duties will be assigned on an as-needed basis by the chief of <br />police in the chief's sole discretion. <br /> <br />(c) Police department personnel are eligible to receIve pay for only one special <br />assignment at any given time. <br /> <br />(d) Categories of assignments for which assignment pay is to be paid are established by <br />ordinance by the city council. The chief of police will maintain wTitten descriptions of <br />the functions of each category and of the skills and abilities related to the functions <br />that are used to qualify employees for assignment duties under subsection (a)(l) above. <br /> <br />Sec. 62.093. Compensation. <br /> <br />Police department personnel assigned to special assignments shall be compensated at a <br />rate established by the city council by separate ordinance, in addition to regular pay, <br />for performance of special assignment services. Special assignment services performed <br />for less than a month will be compensated on a pro-rata basis. <br /> <br />SECTION 2. Assignment pay is authorized for the following assignments in the <br />police department: <br /> <br />A. Canine Handlers <br />B. Criminal Investigations/Narcotics <br />C. Crime Prevention <br />D. Training/Field Training <br />E. School Resource <br />F. Downtown/Outlet Mall <br /> <br />SECTION 3. The rate of pay for all types of special assignment services is $160.00 <br />per month. <br />
