displayed at Public Meeting #2. Over thirty people attended the meeting, and the overall
response to the Master Plan was favorable.

It is anticipated that the Final Design Guidelines will be presented and adopted by the
Parks Board in late December with City Council approval and adoption to occur at the
beginning on January.

.:. PARK DISCOVERY

Discovery of Purgatory Creek Park will be a challenge especially to those unfamiliar with
the San Marcos area. The park will likely have a relatively hidden feel since the required
entry will be located off the proposed Craddock Avenue extension. It is therefore
important that the park be recognizable to drivers on Wonderworld Drive as a destination
or entity and not just an open space.

· An architectural element or elements within the park should be visible from
Wonderworld Drive. Buildings or other architectural features will provide a
destination for park users.

· Adjacent to Wonderworld Drive at the northeast park boundary corner there is an
opportunity to place an architectural element to indicate the location of the park. This
element may be a stone wall or stone corner marker. This element should reflect the
same character as the park and the architecture, and it should be subtle but still
evoke a sense of place for the park. It should strike curiosity in passersby and act as
a marker for return users that the park entrance is approaching. These walls may
also if feasible act as sound walls to reduce vehicular noise within the park.

· There are also opportunities to highlight the park along the bridge section of
Wonderworld Drive on the eastern side of the park. Although meeting the various
TxDOT standards for design speeds as well as the noise attenuation desires, will
necessitate the use of a visually impenetrable concrete barrier, "reveals", color or
other architectural elements could be added to the barrier. To further reduce
vehicular noise on the bridge the length of the construction joints should be
lengthened as much as possible.

· Signage will be key in directing users to the park entrance. The signage section
discusses the discovery sequence in greater detail.

.:. SITE ACCESS

Access to the park property shall be provided for pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
Vehicular and pedestrian entry will occur from one entrance off the Craddock Avenue
extension. Pedestrian access will be available from Prospect Park. Future pedestrian
access should be considered from the future Purgatory Creek trail near Hernandez
Intermediate School, the future FM 110 connection north of the main building site and
the water line easement near Purgatory Creek.
