CITY OF SAN MARCOS
January 20, 2000
Page 4

A second fee evaluation method was also considered, in which we compared the
anticipated versus actual manpower for the project work to date. Attachment E provides
the anticipated engineering manpower that was made a part of the original professional
services agreement with the City. Attachment F includes a summary of the actual
manpower to date for the project. This work to date represents the contracted preliminary
engineering phase of services. By comparing these summaries, a total fee increase of
$30,588 for the preliminary engineering to date would result. Additionally, about $3,000
is needed to complete the remaining preliminary engineering services. These remaining
services include: 1) completing some preliminary engineering design; 2) completing the
Pre-Design Report; 3) additional City-authorized geotechnical investigation; 4)
attending City staff meetings or City Council workshops; and 5) attending neighborhood
meetings. Therefore, this second fee evaluation method yields an additional fee request
of$33,588 for the preliminary engineering phase only. This fee increase is
approximately the same as presented in Table 1 above.

Consequently, the two fee evaluations yield similar fee increases for the expanded
project. We therefore propose a total fee request of$42,984, as summarized in Table 1
above.

We trust you will find this additional services request to be complete and satisfactory.
Please advise if you need anything else regarding our request.

Sincerely,

~.

Stephen A.
