Commission meeting follow-up memo In accordance with ACSEC Rule 252.6, the Executive Committee met on October 15, 1998 and voted to adopt the proposed distribution schedule for the Wireless Service Fee. Rule 252.6 states that the commission shall use the most recent annual estimate from the Texas State Data center to proportionally distribute wireless service fee. Geographic positioning systems that can provide a useful location of a person are necessary so that emergency service providers can find the caller. All wireless devices will have to have embedded components to provide this information when a 9-1-1 call is made before universal enhanced wireless communications become a reality. A standard technology that will provide this degree of precision has not been agreed upon by the parties involved with wireless communications. The large number of wireless systems operators and the different types of equipment in use complicate the achievement of this goal tremendously. This agency is spearheading the effort in Texas to overcome these obstacles and provide wireless callers the emergency service responses that they have come to expect.
