All manholes and mainline cleanouts <br />in the study area located or made accessible under Task 2 shall be inspected. <br />Required from Others: The City will provide assistance in locating and opening existing manholes, <br />cleanouts, and access devices as required. The City will provide access to all system <br />appurtenances in the study area. <br />Deliverables: Electronic and hard copy deliverables provided in Task 13 — Draft Report. The <br />report will provide tabular and graphical listings of inspected system assets, location and type of <br />defects, and system asset construction materials. Both hardcopy and electronic formats shall be <br />provided. The electronic data shall be in Microsoft Access 2007 format. <br />Task 4 — Smoke Testing <br />Smoke testing shall be completed on the entire collection system identified during Task 2. <br />Harmless smoke will be introduced into the sewer system using air blowers having a minimum <br />rated capacity of 4,000 CFM. Smoke testing shall be conducted under dry weather conditions to <br />allow the maximum detection of inflow and rainfall responsive infiltration sources. Notification of <br />residences and businesses shall be made 24 hours prior to smoke testing. <br />During smoke testing, the proximity of the collection system to storm sewers, creek crossings, <br />drainage paths and ponding areas will be noted. Digital photographs of every smoke leak found <br />will be taken and GPS coordinates of the leak location collected and electronically attached to the <br />field forms. <br />Smoke testing data collected in the field will include: <br />• Upstream /downstream manhole number <br />• Length of sewer line <br />• Ground cover over line segment <br />• Leak location from two known reference points <br />• Degree of smoke observed <br />• Leak location relative to drainage paths /ponding areas <br />• Storm sewer crossings or cross connections <br />• Classifications of leaks as: <br />- Main line <br />- Manhole <br />- Public service line <br />- Private service line <br />Smoke testing may be used to facilitate other tasks as required <br />Assumptions: Based on available GIS and as -built maps, there are an estimated 141,963 LF of <br />wastewater collection lines in the designated study areas to be tested without request for <br />additional compensation. The data recorded for each smoke test shall be recorded in Microsoft <br />Access 2007 format to facilitate data upload to the City's Information Management System. All <br />City smoke testing procedures shall be followed. Surcharged pipelines, pipelines with sags and /or <br />blockages shall be reported to the City on a weekly basis. ENGINEER will provide immediate <br />notification of field conditions that could cause damage to persons or property. Any public <br />meetings, if required for this project, should be conducted before the smoke testing operations <br />begin. <br />Required from Others: The City will provide assistance in locating and opening existing manholes, <br />cleanouts, and access devices as required. The City will provide access to all system <br />appurtenances in the study area. The City shall provide listings of persons to be notified on a <br />daily basis of work locations during smoke testing. Typical persons receiving daily notification are <br />the City of San Marcos Fire Department and the City's project manager.
