39.

2000
TML RESOLUTION COVER SHEET

Sponsoring Entity: The City of San Marcos

Brief Background: Substantial suburban growth is occurring in many rural areas of
Texas, outside of areas of municipal subdivision and zoning controls. Much of this
growth is taking place in areas that are limited in overall water supply, or sensitive with
respect to groundwater resources or other environmental issues. Texas counties need
additional subdivision control authority to effectively manage this growth. Texas cities
should support additional county subdivision control authority in the interest of ensuring
high quality, sustainable growth in areas that may one day become a part of their
jurisdiction.

What the Resolution is Intended to Accomplish: Higher quality, properly planned
growth in areas outside of the jurisdiction of Texas cities.

Statewide Importance: The problems associated with poorly planned suburban growth
in rural areas of Texas are occurring throughout the state.

Submitted by:

Name: David Chiu

Title: Mayor

City: San Marcos

Telephone: 512/393-8085
