14 ORDINANCE t980-1 I AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS AMENDING SECTION 4, ENTITLED "DEF- INITIONS" OF APPENDIX A, ENTITLED "GENERAL ZONING ORDINANCE" OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF SAID CITY; BY CHANGING THE DEFINITION OF "FAMILY" TO INCLUDE ANY NUMBER OF INDIVIDUALS LIVING TOGETHER AS A SINGLE HOUSE- KEEPING UNIT, IN WHICH NOT MORE THAN TWO (2) INDIVIDUALS ARE UNRELATED BY MARRIAGE OR LEGAL ADOPTION WITHIN THE DEFINITION, BY ALPHABETIZING SAID DEFINITIONS AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That Section 4, Entitled "Definitions" of Appendix A, Entitled "General Zoning Ordinance" of the Code of Ordinances, City of San Marcos, Texas is hereby amended to read as follows: Section 4. Definitions For the purpose of clarification, it is the intent of this Ordinance that the following words or phrases shall be interpreted to have the meaning as outlined below: I Accessory Building: In a residential district, a subordinate building, attached to or detached from the main building, without separate utilities, and not used for commercial purpose, or rented. It may be used as servants' quarters, a washroom, storage room for domestic storage belonging to th~ owner or tenant only, or a space for one or more automobiles owned by the owner, tenant or guests. In districts other than residential, an accessory building is a subordinate building the use of which is incidental to and used only in conjunction with the main build- lng. Apartment: A room in an apartment house occupied by not more than two individuals; or, a suite of rooms arranged, designed, or occupied as a residence by a single family, individual, or groups of indivi- duals. Apartment Hotel: Any building larger than an apart- ment house designed or built to be occupied as a series of separate apartments and by persons living independent- ly of each other. I Apartment House: A building designed, built, rented, leased, let or hired out to be occupied by three (3) or more apartments or which is occupied as the home or residence of three (3) or more families or indivi- duals, living independently of each other. Area of the Lot: The area of the lot shall be the net area of the lot and shall not include portions of streets and alleys. Block: An area enclosed by streets and occupied by or intended for buildings; or, if said word is used as a term of measurement, it shall mean the distance along a side of a street between the nearest two (2) streets which intersect said street.
