It is prudent to establish basic facility
requirements early in the planning process, and work per-
formed in this task will be based upon the activity and
traffic forecasts developed in Task 2. This task will pro-
duce a basic facility development program in terms of space
required, functional considerations, movement of aircraft,
air space and operational consideratlons such as runways
required, levels of aircraft activity, etc.

The facility requirements will be identified for airport
purposes only, and wlll not include any assessment of faci-
lity reguirrmrnts for other purposrs, i.e., the Gary Job
Center or municipal functions unrcilated to aviation.

Upon completlon of this task, the generalized acreage re-
quired for initial and ultimate airport development will he
known. Meteorological and climatological data will be analyzed
to confirm the most favorable orientation for flight traffic,
runway instrumentation, n~vigation aids, lighting and other
essential airfield facilities.

- -~~.--- -.

~ ~,"""'''''''''''''.;r'''''-'- ........
