I

I

25A

BISHOP STREET PAVING AND DRAINAGE PROJECT
REVISED ESTIMATE OF PROJECT COSTS

On August 1, 1980, Dabney-Byrn and Associates presented the City
of San Marcos with a Summary of Project Costs for the Bishop Street
Paving and Drainage Project. The initial report presented numerous
scenarios for proposed improvements on Bishop Street.

On September 8, 1980, representatives from Dabney-Byrn and Associates
met with City officials to set project goals and to select a scenario
which seemed most appropriate for obtaining those goals. It was
decided at this meeting that scenario VI 4 from the above mentioned
report be utilized as a starting point to delineate the scope of the
project. The City representatives attached certain additional
criteria to the basic scenario anD requested further cost analysis.

This Revised Estimate of Project Costs, then, represents the results
of a detailed study performed by Dabney-Byrn and Associates utilizing
the guidelines set forth by City officials at the September 8th meetinr!

The scope of the project. is to be outlined as follows:

1. The project area is to run from Progress Street to
Ranch Road 12.
2. The existing street is to be overlayed and widened
(as required) to 22' within the project area.
3. A five (5) foot shoulder is to be added to both sides
of the 22 foot paved surface bringing the overall
street width to thirty-two (32) feet throughout the
project area.
4. Existing drainage ditches and structures within the
project area are to be adjusted, relocated, or extended
as required to accommodate the street widening. Only
those drainage adjustments required by widening the
street are proposed. (See Figure A.) It is understoou
that the existing drainage design along Bishop Street
is inadequate, yet present funding severely limits this
aspect of the project.
5. The "blind hill" in Section A (originally presented in
Section A, Scenario IB.2. of the August 1st report) is
to be reconstructed to provide improved sight distances
and safer traffic flow. The area under consideration
here would run from approximately survey station 88+50
through 95+00 (see original construction plans, Westov,'r
Paving and Drainage Project.)
