<br />(c) Chapter 82: Traffic and Vehicles. <br /> <br />4. Renderine Assistance <br /> <br />4.01. Officers of either department may pursue violators through their jurisdiction without regard <br />to their department's ordinary area of operation. <br /> <br />4.02. In situations where immediate assistance is necessary to preserve life or prevent serious bodily <br />injury, the police department of either party may request assistance from the other. <br /> <br />4.03. Either party may request assistance from the other in controlling traffic or crowds. The <br />responding department will assist the requesting department to the extent that it is able, <br />without jeopardizing the performance ofits primary responsibilities. Such requests will have <br />supervisory approval before they are communicated. <br /> <br />4.04. When responding to a request for assistance under sections 4.02 and 4.03 above, the peace <br />officers of the responding department will act under the supervision, direction, and control <br />of the requesting department. <br /> <br />4.05. All requests for assistance shall have the approval of the on-duty supervisor of the requesting <br />agency and of the on-duty supervisor of the responding agency, except in cases where an <br />emergency precludes obtaining approval from either or both. <br /> <br />5. Liaison for Criminal Investigations <br /> <br />5.01. SWT's Police Department will investigate criminal offenses occurring on property owned, <br />leased or controlled by SWT. The City's Police Department will investigate criminal offenses <br />occurring within the city but generally not on property owned, leased or controlled by SWT. <br />While on duty, SWT peace officers may take action on offenses occurring in their presence <br />on city streets. While on duty, City police o~cers may take action on offenses occurring in <br />their presence on property owned leased, or controlled by SWT. <br /> <br />5.02. San Marcos Police Department officers will seek and SWT's Police Department will offer <br />assistance to City police officers when executing arrest or search warrants on SWT's campus. <br />The SWT officers assisting the City's officers in executing warrants on campus will determine <br />in advance the location of the suspect, the suspect's class schedule, residence hall, or place <br />of employment in order to minimize disruption of classes, reduce the chances for error, <br />increase the chances of successful arrest, and reduce the chance of confrontation. <br /> <br />5.03. When an SWT peace officer is executing an arrest or search warrant off campus, they will <br />seek the cooperation of the City's Police Department. <br /> <br />swtmemo.wpd <br /> <br />Page 2 <br />
