The Senior Citizen Facilities Advisory Board has requested that the City Council expand the <br />purposes and role of the Board. <br /> <br />2. The expansion of the purposes and role ofthe Senior Citizen Facilities Advisory Board requires <br />revisions to be made to the City Code provisions establishing the Human Development Commission <br />to avoid an overlap in the role of the two boards. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. Sections 2.151, 2.152 and 2.153 of the City Code are amended as follows <br />(underlining indicates added text; oven;tl:ike indicates deleted text): <br /> <br />Sec. 2.151. Definitions. <br /> <br />In this article: <br /> <br />Minority means a person who is black, hispanic, asian-american, or native american, <br />or a person with a disability. <br /> <br />Disability means a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life <br />activity, such as walking, seeing, hearing, breathing, learning, working, sitting, standing or <br />caring for oneself. <br /> <br />SeniOJ citizen meCUiS a person GO ~ea1S of agG 01 oldGI. <br /> <br />Youth means a person 18 years of age or younger. <br /> <br />Sec. 2.152. Composition; term of office. <br /> <br />(a) The human development commission is established, composed of six city <br />residents, and one resident of the city's extraterritorial jurisdiction, all appointed by the city <br />council. <br /> <br />(b) In making appointments to the human development commission, the city <br />council shall endeavor to assure broad representation and experience, and shall include <br />persons interested in the welfare of minorities, women, seniol dtizens and youth. <br /> <br />(c) Members of the commission serve three year terms, staggered so that three <br />members are appointed one year, two are appointed the next year, and two are appointed the <br />following year. <br /> <br />Sec. 2.153. Duties and powers. <br /> <br />(a) The commission will serve as an advisory body to the city council, other city <br />boards and commissions, and the city manager on matters involving minorities, women; <br /> <br />1 <br />
