Archeological Services Proposal

Spring Lake Waterline

be plotted on level forms. Features will be drawn in a floor plan for each level excavated.
After mapping, features will be exam ined by cross-section and removal in measured
increments and 5 cm levels. Special samples of feature fill may be collected for fine
screening with water through 1/6th-inch hardware mesh, as necessary. A 50 x 50 cm
column shall be excavated in the northwest quadrant of the 2x2m unit dug at 41 HY37 in
controlled 10-cm levels. Column soils shall be screened through 1/16 inch wire mesh to
include recovery of microbotanical materials present, if any.

All features will be mapped in place and drawn in a level floor plan. AP&C shall assess
the research value of the buried deposits at site 41 HY306. Any potential adverse impacts
to sensitive resources will be identified at site 41 HY37. Recommendation s regarding
adverse impacts to the resource, if any, and the need for site treatment in the form of
additional data recovery will be formulated and reported as per antiquities permit
requirem ents

Artifact Processing and Analysis
Antiquities Planning & Consulting shall wash, catalog, process, tabulate, categorize, and
analyze artifacts collected from the two 1x1 meter test units and the 2x2 meter excavation
block. Time-marker diagnostics will be subject to edge-wear and use analysis.
Identification and analysis of faunal (bone, snail, and mussel shell), and historical
materials will be conducted and reported by technical specialists. Special samples, such
as charcoal for radio-carbon dating, will be collected, if the opportunity arises. Diagnostic
artifacts will be illustrated in the report. Identification and analysis of artifacts shall include
the production of specimen inventories.

Produce Final Report of Technical Findings
Antiquities Planning & Consulting shall produce a final technical report of findings that
meets Texas Historical Commission requirements and Council of Texas Archeologist's
Guidelines for Cultural Resource Management Reports. At a minimum, the report shall
contain the following sections: Archeological Background; Research Design and Goals;
Field Methodology; Maps; and Findings and Recommendations. The report shall clearly
identify archeological sites, if found, which will be adversely affected by the proposed
development.

The report shall contain recommendations regarding State Archeological Landmark status
and eligibility for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places for sites 41 HY306
and 41 HY37. The Historical Commission, as the State Historic Preservation Office
(SHPO), makes determinations regarding construction impacts, the research value at the
archeological deposits, and the level of site treatment needed, if any. If a finding of
adverse impact is made, additional archeological investigations could be required. If no
finding of significant impact is made, construction of the waterline'may proceed without
further archeological investigation.

Antiquities Planning & Consulting

Page 4
