Mr. Taylor asked if the Council wanted to sell this <br />)iece of property for less than what it is valued. He also asked how much <br />)f the money would go to the taxing entities and how much would go to the <br />law firm. Steve Byrd, partner with Linebarger, stated this piece of <br />property is a tax foreclosure, which allows a sale on the courthouse steps. <br />There were no bids on the property, so less than the bid amount can be <br />accepted. He stated the City is the first entity to consider this matter. <br />Mr. Taylor stated he feels the taxing entities should hold onto this <br />property. Mr. Mihalkanin stated if this property would be assessed annually <br />for 15%. He stated he would like to receive 100% of the value, but how long <br />would the property be off the tax rolls. He stated he would rather receive <br />some money than none. Mr. Montoya stated if someone wants to purchase this <br />property and put it back on the tax roll, then he feels the Council should <br />adopt this Resolution. Mr. Mayhew stated he agrees the Council should try <br />to get some of their money back. Ms. Narvaiz inquired to if the Historic <br />Preservation Commission knows about this property. Mr. O'Leary stated he <br />does not think the Historic Preservation Commission knows about this <br />property. Ms. Tatum stated she thinks this property should be sold to the <br />Morenos especially since no one bid on it. Mr. Byrd stated this property <br />once had a building on it, which added value to the property. He also <br />stated when money is collected, the court costs would be paid first <br />($900.00), and then the 2002 taxes in full ($300.00). This will leave <br />~4,800.00 to be divided equally between the three entities' percentages to <br />~pply towards the judgment amounts. The Council then voted unanimously for <br />adoption of the Resolution. <br /> <br />Mayor Habingreither introduced a discussion regarding the Linebarger tax <br />collection presentation. Steven Bird with the Linebarger lawfirm presented <br />the Council with a handout showing the status of the tax collection for the <br />City since July. He stated there have been four mailouts to delinquent <br />taxpayers and then were followed up with phone calls. He stated they have <br />also set up payment arrangements when this was needed. He also stated <br />compared to last year the tax collections are up[ There are 18 pieces of <br />property with similar situations like the one discussed earlier on the <br />agenda. Mr. Bird stated his firm is trying to get these 18 pieces of <br />property back on the tax roll quickly. He provided a pie chart to show the <br />status of these delinquent taxes. <br /> <br />Mayor Habingreither introduced a discussion regarding the Hispanic Chamber <br />Office Proposal funding for land purchase. Mayor Habingreither stated <br />Staff has done research and found seven pieces of parkland which were used <br />as something other than parkland. He stated he feels the Hispanic Chamber <br />of Commerce has potential to help the City with Economic Development. He <br />~tated he wants the Council to consider purchasing property for the Hispanic <br />2hamber of Commerce. Mr. Mihalkanin asked whether the Hispanic Chamber of <br />2ommerce still wants the same amount of property. Mayor Habingreither <br />stated he thinks the most important thing is the location. He stated he <br />would like to ask the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to find the property, <br /> <br /> <br />
