Freese. Nichols
PSI Proposal Number: 312-087
August 11, 1997
Page Two of Seven

As requested by Les Boyd of Freese. Nichols, iUs anticipated that 24 borings will be
drilled for this project. The borings will be drilled at 1000 foot intervals along the sewerline
route. In addition, borings will be necessary at lift station locations and at any creek. river
or railroad crossings. Boring depths are anticipated to average between 15 and 2S feet.
Deeper borings will be necessary at the lift station and crossing locations.

The subsurface exploration will include laboratory testing of the samples obtained to
evaluate the classification, strength, plasticity, grain size and other characteristics of the
subsurface materials involved. The results of the field exploration and laboratory tests will
be used in the engineering analysis and in the fonnulation of the recormnendatioDS. Tbe
results of the subsurface exploration, including the reconunendations and the data on which
they are based, will be presented in a written report prepared by a professional engineer.

PSI is familiar with local subsurface conditions and has participated in the planning,
development and execution of subsurface evaluations in the project area. In addition, PSI
engineers have provided recommendations for foundation design criteria and construction
considerations for projects similar to the one proposed.

PSI laboratories are equipped with modem soil and rock testing apparatus, and field
exploration programs are conducted with modern drilling equipment. Field and laboratory
testIng is perfonned by trained, qualified technicians under the guidance and supervision of
professional engineers.

It is proposed that the fee for the perfonnance of the above outlined services be
determined on a unit price basis, in accordance with the attached Schedule of Services and
Fees, and that the work be performed pursuant to the PSI General Conditions. Copies of the
PSI Schedule of Services and Fees and General Conditions are enclosed herewith and
incorporated into this proposal. On the basis of the estimated quantities and the Schedule of
Services and Fees, it is estimated that the total fee will be on the order of $17,000.00. A
Project Cost Breakdown is attached.

Our estimate covers the work needed to complete the requested Geotechnical Scope of
Work and to present our findings and recommendations in a report form. Not included are
reviews of construction drawings, preparation of construction specifications, special
conferences and any other work requested after submittal of our report. The cost also does
not include any surveying to obtain ground surface elevations at the boring locations.
