Heat 2 Building Code Improvements to Mitigate Extreme Heat Hazard

See Mitigation Action T -2, "Building Code Improvements" for additional information.

This Mitigation Action addresses building code requirements and improvements that will result
in structures that are better insulated and energy efficient to reduce the effects of extreme heat
and cold.

Building Code improvements may include mmlmum "R" values for building insulation;
thermopane or insulated glass requirements for commercial and residential construction;
energy audits of commercial and industrial structures; energy inspections and certifications
required prior to issuing a "certificate of occupancy" for a residential structure. It is anticipated I
that this action should be coordinated with the Capital Area Planning Council (CAPCO) and
possibly patterned after the North Central Texas Council of Governments "Safe, Clean and
