<br /> <br />"n 'i <br /> <br />!<..;., <br /> <br />SMFR Receives $50,000 Grant <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />San Marcos Fire Rescue has been awarded a $50,000 ''Assistance to Firefighters Grant" from the <br />U.S. Department of Homeland Security, in collaboration with the U.S. Fire Administration at FEMA. <br /> <br />U.S. Senator John Cornyn's staff will present Fire Chief Mike Baker a Certificate of Congratulations <br />on Tuesday, August 23 at 3:00 p.m. at Station 1, located at 114 E. Hutchison St. <br /> <br />The federal share of the approved project is 90 percent or $45,000 and the City will match 10 <br />percent or $5,000. The money will be used to purchase emergency power generators for each of <br />the City's four fire stations. <br /> <br />This is the second grant the department has received from FEMA. The first grant was used to <br />purchase health and weJlness equipment for the firefighters. (8-22-2005) <br /> <br />2.16 Terrorism <br /> <br />Hazard Identification: <br />Terrorism is the use of force or violence against persons or property in violation of the criminal <br />laws of the United States for purposes of intimidation, coercion, or ransom. Terrorists often use <br />threats to create fear among the public, to try to convince citizens that their government is <br />powerless to prevent terrorism, and to get immediate publicity for their causes. Weapons of <br />mass destruction (WMD), including incendiary, explosive, chemical, biological, radiological <br />and nuclear agents, are intended, or have the capability, to cause death or serious injury to I <br />significant number of people, thus posing the threat of a catastrophic incident. Terrorism <br />includes the following hazards: <br /> <br />. Conventional bomb <br />. Biological agent <br />. Chemical agent <br />. Nuclear bomb <br />. Radiological agent <br />. Arson/incendiary attack <br />. Armed attack <br />. Agriterrorism <br />. Intentional hazardous materials release <br />. Assault on community infrastructure <br />. Assault on community and electronic information systems <br /> <br />The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) categorizes terrorism in the United States as <br />domestic terrorism or international terrorism. Domestic terrorism involves groups or <br />individuals whose terrorist activities are directed at elements of our government or population <br />without foreign direction.
